IF MY PEOPLE

I begin in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. I thank God always for sparing our lives in times such as these, that, by His grace, I get to complete writing and publishing this book, and you, by His grace, get to read it in the land of the living. I have been a New Yorker for decades. I was in New York on September 11th, 2001, when terrorists flew two planes into the World Trade Center. I was watching live from a safe distance when I saw the second airplane fly into the second building. I watched in horror as the famous skyscrapers collapsed floor by floor in rapid succession like a stack of pancakes. It was horrific. For days, weeks, and months, the number of dead or missing increased in the thousands. I personally attended remembrance services of friends whose relatives died in the twin towers.I hoped and prayed that for the rest of my life, I might never witness any event whose number of deaths might rival or exceed the September 11, 2001 catastrophe. I was wrong. COVID-19’s death toll has dwarfed any other mass death tolls in our lifetime.
